Two Colorado ski towns rank among top 10 in North America, according to USA Today

While slope-bound activities might be the main priority during ski trip planning, picking the right mountain town to visit can also be a big factor in the determining how memorable a winter vacation is. Thankfully, Colorado is dotted with many amazing mountain towns that offer great skiing, as well as fun experiences off the slopes.

Editor's Note: Consider guidelines and restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic prior to planning any trip to Colorado. A number of strict rules are in place in many mountain towns and risk levels are high. Do your research and consider saving your trip for next season.

Two of Colorado's ski towns recently got international recognition when USA Today released their annual round of "10 Best" lists. Found among destinations in the US and Canada, Aspen and Breckenridge were both included among the continent's best ski towns to visit.

Aspen ranked the highest on the list, taking the sixth place spot. Though notably one of the most expensive ski towns in the state, Aspen is home to epic mountain terrain, a vast array of shopping and dining experiences, and a number of annual events. It also offers access to four separate mountains.

Breckenridge followed close behind Aspen, ranking seventh. In close proximity to multiple skiing options including Breckenridge, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, and Copper Mountain, visitors to this mountain town have no shortage of access to winter activities. Breckenridge is also known for its many dining options and a number of popular live events. Plus, Breckenridge's close proximity to the Front Range makes it easy to access for a majority of Colorado's population.

The top spot on the list was North Conway in New Hampshire. It's also worth noting that multiple Canadian destinations made the cut, including Rossland and Banff.

The selection process for USA Today's annual '10 Best' lists includes a panel of experts and a popular vote.
